In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Pankaj Chaturvedi, MD Director and Consulting Dermatologist at MedLinks shared, “Many procedures take only a lunch hour to complete with little or no recovery time. Among cosmetic procedures, Profilo, injectable fillers, hydrating skin boosters, hybrid lasers A variety of techniques and treatments are used, including bio stimulators, radiofrequency micro-needling, and energy-based devices such as thread lifts. Like cosmetic surgery, cosmetic procedures also require a physician trained in the procedure, including appropriate recovery time, treatment, and proper care.

Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi highlights what you need to know and factors to consider if you are considering a cosmetic procedure –

  • Your expectations: Focus on improvement, not model-like perfection. Those who report the greatest satisfaction after a cosmetic procedure are those who kept their expectations realistic—and didn’t expect new ones, trying to magically change every aspect of their lives. Remember that you are doing this for yourself – to feel good – rather than to please someone else.
  • Expenses: Cosmetic procedures are rarely covered by health insurance plans. Costs vary by procedure, from thousands to millions. In addition, there will be the cost of any follow-up care or corrective procedures if necessary.
  • Risk and Recovery: There are risks with any type of procedure and non-invasive cosmetic procedures. Dissatisfaction is possible. Recovery time varies, depending on the procedure and what you do to help heal during recovery. You should discuss these items with your doctor at length and understand how the surgery may affect aspects of your personal and professional life.
  • Finding a qualified practitioner: There are dozens of reputable, talented cosmetic physicians around. If you decide to pursue cosmetic procedures, choose someone who specializes in the procedure you want to perform and is certified in the specialty by an official board. Beware of misleading certificates from unknown or self-imposed boards. If you are having a procedure that requires general anesthesia, make sure the operating facility is accredited by an accrediting agency, or licensed by an authorized board where the facility is located.

Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi advises, “When you’ve narrowed down your choice of cosmetic surgeon, schedule a consultation — or multiple consultations with different surgeons. They’ll assess the part of your body you want treated, and you’ll share your medical history, including any you’re taking. will list medications, and discuss your wishes and expectations. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Reputable physicians will be happy to discuss everything with you.”

He concludes, “The more time you spend with your cosmetic surgeon to establish specific, measurable and achievable goals before the procedure, the more likely you will be satisfied with the results. Discuss your options with friends and family members to get their help and advice.” But you should make the right decision for you alone. Take as much time as you need to make your decision. You can change your mind at any point and you can ask for a second opinion from another surgeon. It’s important for you to be comfortable with the surgeon and commit to your treatment options.”
